A PRAYER FOR SUGAR

This past November, I had the privilege of traveling to Jordan with The Well to serve along side an incredibly faithful group of believers and their church for ten days. Throughout our time, we clearly witnessed the power of the Holy Spirit move to pursue his people in Jordan. In his joy, God stoops low to draw near to his sheep. His abundant compassion, mercy, and love never come to an end and he will stop at nothing to make Himself known to His children. I see these character traits like threads - woven together to create a beautiful blanket designed to cover, protect, and care for His people. God truly cares for our every need, whether big or small, nothing is hidden or goes unnoticed. The lord is our sovereign provider and I wanted to share one story from our time in Jordan that I believe really showcases God’s desire to provided for our every needs.

The second day visiting refugees in their homes, we started our morning bringing food items to a couple who had been deeply walking with Jesus for serval years! With those who were already believers, we spent time reflecting, studying, and encouraging one another through scripture and the way God has moved in our lives. A few days prior, our translator had contacted the man to set up our time, but upon our arrival we discovered that he had not told his wife we were coming. Nonetheless, this couple joyfully and humbly welcomed us with open arms and immediately made us feel at home despite their poverty. The city had recently shut off all their utilities and was threatening to evict them if they could not pay the month’s rent. While their family had lived in Jordan for several years, they told us that it is often very difficult as foreigners (not of Jordanian decent) to secure a decent paying job. We spent time affirming them in the word and prayed over them - that the lord would provide meaningful and sustaining work that would enable them to comfortably stay in their home.

As we got up to leave, the woman looked inside the food bags. She immediately lit up and started to laugh. To her surprise there was a bag of sugar in the box. She shared with us that earlier that morning she had prayed for sugar - they had run out and they couldn’t afford it. As i mentioned earlier, she was unaware we were coming, so there was no way she could have requested we bring this to her. she just prayed for sugar and God provided! The Lord hears our cries and delights to answer them when we humbly come to Him. If He wants to provide for our littlest needs and desires, how much more will He provide for our big (and maybe even unimaginable) needs?! Bring your desires, cares, worries, and needs to the Lord. Lay them at His feet and entrust your confidence in Him to provide abundantly.

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sown nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you being anxious can I add a single hour to span of life?” - Matthew 6:25-27

THE WELL MISSIONS

We believe Jesus was serious when He said to take the gospel to the ends of the earth, so we desire to do just that. We do not only want to briefly help people by doing short-term mission trips, but also build sustaining relationships and be a consistent help by sending long-term missionaries, businesses, and anything else that will help carry the gospel overseas.
